Nesting Roots
Project type
Outdoor Installation
Date
2013
Location
Harrisburg, PA
"Nesting Roots" was included in and won 1st place in the 2013 Art in the Wild at Wildwood Nature Center in Harrisburg, PA. The project was installed in early April and was removed in late October. My intention with "Nesting Roots" was inspired by the children in my life finding "rooms" or "home-like" structures in cave-like forms that nature itself creates out of vines and fallen or uprooted trees. I also wanted to show how time in nature affects each piece. This time-based project incorporates different types of fibers, from 100% cotton, 100% wool, wool blends, and 100% acrylic yarns. "Nesting Roots" and other projects were subjected to all kinds of weather, wildlife, and human interaction, allowing the elements to change the sculpture as they will.
